And Then There Were Two

|

Walsall boss Dean Keates last night admitted that only two trialists remain at the club from the five that played during our 2-0 victory over Ajax last Thursday evening.

Keates states that both trialists are centre backs so that means the unknown Cypriot trialist has departed along with two defenders.

We understand that former Millwall defender Christian Mbulu featured for Lincoln City last night in their pre-season friendly so two from Tom Brewitt, Tomas Egert and Adam Mitchell remain at the club.

The two remaining defenders are training with the club and will be available to feature against Cheltenham this weekend.

Dean Keates also confirmed that he is hopeful of making at least three signings before the season opener with Plymouth next weekend. He has identified a central midfielder and a striker and did concede he would rather these signings be permanent but can dip into the loan market should he wish.

Speaking to Express and Star, Keates said

“I want to sign our own players but if that doesn’t happen I’ve got some more than capable loans – good under-23 players who are pushing for a place in the first team at their clubs.

“But ideally I’d like to bring in our own players.”

Walsall have until August 31st to sign unattached players or loan signings before the transfer window slams shut.
