Back to the league, can we stay unbeaten?

|

Tomorrow sees a welcome return to league action, as we travel to Forest Green Rovers, looking to avoid our first defeat in the league this season.

We may not have set the world alight so far this season, we haven’t been scoring left, right and centre, but we have looked solid, and well organised. The fact that we have not lost in 90 minutes so far this season is credit to the work that Darrell, his coaching staff, and the team have been putting in on the training pitch, and down to the fantastic squad depth we have got in the side, which I talked about earlier in the week here.

What do I expect to see from tomorrow? I have no doubt that we will line-up our 4-2-3-1 formation. I would expect Robbo to go back in goal, with Norman and Nurse continuing at Full-back. In the middle, I think Scarr and Jules should play, to continue to help grow their partnership in defence, as they haven’t had a run of games together. In midfield, I think Kinsella will start, but I am unsure whether Bates or Sinclair will partner him. I expect the usual front four of Gordon and Wes out wide, with Holden in the middle, and Adebayo up top.

FGR have had a decent start to the season. In the League, they beat Bolton on the opening day, and have followed it up with draws against Bradford and Salford. In the cups, they have been less successful, losing to Leyton Orient in the Carabao Cup, and losing to Exeter in their first game in the EFL Trophy. They ended last season on a disappointing run of form, that saw their play-offs hope fade. They will be expected to be up their again this season, and it will be a good test to see how well we play against those who are wanting to mix it up at the top.

Darrell only has Callum Cockerill-Mollett unavailable, although he is back in training and will be available for selection soon. I am expecting a close match, but if we can take our chances, I feel that this Forest Green team can be got at. Our build up play has looked solid, and defensively, barring getting bullied by some taller, more physical strikers at Harrogate, we have looked solid. So let’s carry that on. My score prediction? I think we will win 2-1!
