Bescot Beat: Best run club in football?

First of all, what a great result over last weekend, especially in seeing Steve Jones hit the ball twice into the back of the net.

It just goes to show the importance of mixing youth with experience, especailly if the experience is performing this good!

Also, last weekend saw the return of ‘Sir’ Ray Graydon to the club for the first time since his questionable sacking in 2002.

Before he delighted the Saddlers faithful with his presence to collect the star award, he hit out at fans that continue to speak badly of Jeff Bonser, claiming that Walsall was the ‘best run club in football.’

Personally, I question this statement as a Saddler because of the lack of investment into the team. In the current financial climate, it ,makes sense to watch the pennies, but before the recession, there was still no real investment into the team.

Fair enough there was a training ground built, but what’s the point if there is no team to put in it?

The squad is thin-bare in comparison to most League Two clubs, let alone League One clubs, which is a dangerous game to play when you employ players who are in their thirties.

So to answer the statement, we are not so much a well-run club, but we have a well-run Sunday Market.
