Bescot Beat: RIP Sir Bobby

It was a sad end to a good week, where football was thrown into mourning the loss of Sir Bobby Robson after he lost his battle with cancer last Saturday.

Sir Bobby was 76-years-old and will be remembered for his exploits with Ipswich town where he spent 14 years, winning the UEFA Cup. He will be missed within football, but more so by his family.

Vital Walsall wish to express their deepest sympathies to his family.

On the other hand,the good week is in reference to the lads looking in good shape for the start of the new season….there’s only six more days to go!!

However, you could say it seems like yesterday since the last league game. We will also be looking to stick by a manager for a whole season and maintain stability for once.

Having beaten Hereford 1-0 yesterday, in what was a effective rather than pretty performance, we look to have gotten ourselves into the habit of pulling rabbits out of the hat.

Trialist Matt Richards started the game in a bid to win himself a contract at the club. Rumour has it he will do so and can be expected to sign a one-year deal, with an option of a further year, to complete what was a bare thin squad just four weeks ago.

Also, there is minor speculation about more additions in the coming days, with some fans suggesting that there will be two more signings before August 31st.

Heading the list is Bristol City striker Lee Trundle, who has fallen down the pecking order at Ashton Gate.

The former Wrexham forward is said to be wanted by Hutch to add extra competition to Parkin, Deeney, and Nicholls and will sign on-loan at some stage next week.

For me, I will never forget his performance for Wrexham a few years ago where he was making his debut for the Welsh side, scoring a second-half hatrick to help his side claim a 3-2 win.

Those days were along time ago and spells with Swansea and Bristol City have seen him lose his way a little, but still showing some of his goalscoring qualities.

Trundle would add a bit extra to the squad and would become a invaluable member of the team, but I reallt can’t see this happening.

Even if he did sign on-loan, he would be fantastic score a zillion goals and then Bristol City would sell him to another League One club, thus another Kevin Harper situation.

Personally, I hope Sam Parkin and Troy Deeney make a good partnership, with Steve Jones and Alex Nicholls down either flank. Also, if we can tie Matt Richards down to a contract, the former Ipswich man would provide a bit more depth to the squad in order to ready the team for the new season.
