BESCOT BEAT: Saddlers for playoffs?

Well, it’s a sore question for a Saddler who is fed up of pondering whether we can do it or not.

The simple answer is ‘maybe but who knows, it’s a long time till May.’ However, I am entitled to believe that a solid second half of the season will provide us with the necessary spring into the top six.

The candidates for the playoffs are as follows (in my opinion): Colchester, MK Dons, Norwich, Huddersfield, Millwall, Huddersfield, Swindon, and maybe Sothend (as well as your truly).

Now, out of all those teams, do we really believe that the Saddlers have a chance to leapfrog them all and get into the top six?

We have slashed our playing budget and we have no resources to improve our paper-thin squad, so unless we have a injury-free five months, it isn’t going to happen is it?

In all fairness, we have done the impossible in the past by finishing above Man City and Stoke ten years ago, but I really don’t know how we can do it again?

Personally, I think Hutch just wants a goal for the team to achieve, but the realisitic chances are small and as a fan, I am taking every game as it comes – so should the team!

Basically, my point is we need to stop putting unnecessary pressure on ourselves, as when we did the impossible ten years ago, we just wanted to stay in the division let alone gain promotion!

Only then will we become serious contenders for the playoffs.
