Bitter Saddler speaks out

Following saturdays game I just have a feeling that those present have seen a glimpse of the future. Yes we were nervous and full of unforced errors in the first half….it looked like a long hard winter was ahead of us.

However what a difference a manager makes, last time we were in this league we had Merson in charge. I ask you how many times did we all think at half time if we step it up now we will win this one. Only for us to be out thought in the dugout, as Mersons tactics or rather lack of, got us beat. Now in the last two games a friendly against Villa and the saturdays game DD has changed the team around and got a result when a beating seemed on the cards. Hats off to DD as I said what a difference a manager makes.

As for the future,we already have youngsters Anthony Gerrard and Daniel Fox and of course Scott Dann in the team. Well on saturday we got a further look at Troy Deeney and Alex Nichols and in truth neither looked out of place in league one. Whilst neither are the finished article and no one can predict how they will develop you can see the promise. Troy seems to have benifited from a proper pre season and you can see how working with Tommy Mooney and also Martin Butler could turn him into a first class striker. As for Alex Nicholls he also is really in his first proper pre season since last year he was still recovering from that leg break, but the pace is still there and he tracked back well, not the finished product but could be one for the future for sure. On top of this we have Ishmel looking to establish himself in the first team this year. Others wait in the wings such as Mark Bradley.

We may have a laugh at the Dads Army tag after bringing in Sonner, Hall and Mooney but the future is bright the future is the Walsall youth system.
