Bitter Saddler

My grip today is the media coverage of the league Two title winners….us.

My first moment of raised eyebrows came on the coach on the way back from Swindon, when radio five announced that Swindon had gone up…fair play but Walsall had won the title ‘despite losing 2-1’ cheers guys. But spirits were high and nothing was going to rain on my parade.

Got back to Bescot back in the car radio on WM, surely there would be some comment, but I wasn’t expecting much it was late and Villa had won at home….but to be greeted by interviews with Villa’s silver ware winning team …..25years ago was disappointing, but to be expected from WM.

Then after a night on the beer I hit the sunday papers proud to be a Saddler my little heart racing as I was sure there would be some nice pics….In the Sunday mirror I saw a pic of DD with the banner and some of our players, great I thought, my eyes went closer…..it read Swindon players celebrate promotion…….I nearly choked on my coffee.

Local Sunday rag won’t let me down I thought the good old Sunday Mercury, I pulled out the sports insert to be greeted by a big picture of the trophy winning team with the cup…..bloody villa again, guys thats 25years of failure to do it again your celebrating. My mind thought they have done a centre spread, I opened it up with anticipation….Blues Blues and Blues, okay I will find the match report and finally…..3 pictures !!!!

Okay disappointed I will watch the Championship…..what a waste of time that was!!


Express and Dingle it is up to you to restore my confidence in local media. We maybe a small club in the shadow of so called bigger clubs…but guys we have feelings too.
