Former Rangers And Norwich Defender Set To Sign

|

Walsall are set to announce the signing of former Norwich captain Russell Martin later today according to HITC

Martin who played with Walsall boss Dean Keates at Peterborough is thought to be the mystery free transfer that Keates has been working on since the summer.

Martin captained Norwich City between 2011 and 2018 including their stint in the Premier League following promotion from the Championship.

The thirty-two year old played three hundred and eight times for the Canaries before moving to Rangers and played seventeen games for Rangers under former Norwich youth coach Graeme Murty.

Martin has been without a club for two months but has recently been training with West Bromwich Albion and Keates earlier this week said his target was a senior pro and he had no concerns that he hadn’t played for a few months.

Keates told the Express And Star

“I know the player and I know what he’s about, he is a professional,”

“I’d go as far to say there won’t be a better professional in the country.”

This will be a major signing for the Saddlers and adds much needed experience to the back line.
