Bye Bye Canerio

The Portugese striker was a complete disaster after Richard Money brought the striker in the summer after tracking his progess since his own arrival at the club. Canerio a flamboyant player came with the reputation as being more a flair player than a predator goalscorer, as seen in numerous clips of youtube.

Canerio looked ill at ease in the English game, performing poorly in pre season friendlies and opening games of the season. Dropped from the first team and then ultimately the reserves, a departure was always on the cards. Any hope of a comeback to form was ended by a shoulder injury picked up during a training ground accident. Richard Money did recently speak about Canerio’s recovery from injury but both parties have decided to call it day.

Canerio will always be remember for applauding Aston Villa fans during a friendly when the away end chanted ‘Gippo Gippo gives us a wave!’. We’ll never know if the striker had a wild sense of humour or just a lack of basic English.

It’ll be interesting too see if striker Junior Matwene will subcumb to the same fate, as he was dropped from the reserves last week.
