Chris Hutchings has said Darren Byfield must start to prove himself to get back into the starting lineup.

The striker has scored just 7 goals this season and has not scored in the last 12 games. He has since been replaced by Alex Nicholls, who took no time in opening the scoring in the draw to Millwall.

The gaffer, speaking to the Express and Star, said the 33 year old could not lean on his reputation alone, after netting 100 career goals.

Hutchings said: ‘Darren is a bubbly character but no one is big enough to think they can`t be dropped or rested… I`m not worried or care about reputations. If I think it`s the right thing to do then I`ll do it.’

He added, referring to the new Deeney and Nicholls partnership; “That`s what happens, sometimes you`re looking for the best pair on any given day, depending on who you`re playing against.’

So, do you think Nicholls has what it takes to stay in the team, or does Byfield only need a little jolt to get back to form and the team? Discuss in the forum!
