Byfield to Walsall rumours (again)

Image for Byfield to Walsall rumours (again)

Well following his release from Bristol City yesterday, it only took a couple of hours before the rumours started. Of course the basis of the rumour is the contact he still has with the club, although this weakens as each season passes and players move on. However the biggest link is the Birmingham link with both himself and his partner Jamelia both who live close to Walsall, in Yoxall I understand.

Would we want him, well despite been 32 years old he would do a job, and would be useful to players like Alex Nicholls so yes we would.

Would he come back, well if the family pressures to reduce commuting are true any midland club would be on his radar. Also we can close to securing his signiture last year according to some sources last year, but the lurn of a large pay day in the championship was too good to turn down. So it isn’t impossible that he would return.

Could we afford him, we all know Darren is quiet mercenary in his dealings so as long as the criteria is met the highest bidder will secure his signing. This is where it might just all fall apart with Peterborough and MK Dons not too far away with money to burn, so it would need JB to show intent and get the cheque book out.

We will just have to wait and see

more about the players released from Bristol City who may just end up in league one.Since I would also take Enoch Showunmi, Tamas Vasko,if the price was right.

The full list of players being released is Darren Byfield, Enoch Showunmi, Tamas Vasko, Alex Russell and Martin Slocombe.

Despite being City’s top scorer with eight goals last season, Byfield has failed to establish himself in Gary Johnson’s starting eleven and has been used predominantly as an impact player.

Showunmi was allowed to talk to Leeds United in January, when it became clear that he didn’t feature in Gary Johnson’s plans, though the Nigerian rejected the offer. The arrival of Dele Adebola saw Enoch cast even further into the cold and, after a loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday, Showunmi made just two further substitute appearances for City before the end of the season.

Vasko started strongly in City’s back line, but a lack of concentration in the game at Cardiff City in March saw the giant Hungarian substituted at half time, and he went on to appear just once more under Gary Johnson before the end of the season.

Alex Russell will be long remembered for scoring the final goal against Rotherham last season in the game that saw City promoted from League One. However, Russell has made just one Championship appearance for City this season (away to Blackpool in August) and has spent much of the season on loan to Northampton and Cheltenham.
