The sorry Saddlers welcome Northampton Town to the Banks’s Stadium this weekend hoping to end a streak of five consecutive defeats.

Since the last minute wonder strike by Conor Wilkinson against Newport County back on New Years Day the Saddlers have suffered defeats against Stevenage, Mansfield Town, Exeter City, Bradford City and Bristol Rovers.

TEAM NEWS

The Saddlers welcome new signing Devante Rodney into the side following his undisclosed move from Port Vale. Manchester United loanee Reece Devine looks set to keep his place following the injury to Stephen Ward.

Former Saddlers players Liam Roberts and Jon Guthrie will be returning to the Banks’s Stadium having got the fourth best defensive record in the division.

FORM

Where do we start? Since our 1-0 victory over Sutton United back in October the Saddlers have won just three of our last sixteen league and cup games, drawing three and losing ten. Yikes. Our form needs to turn very quickly otherwise we will be dragged into a relegation battle. It’s just a relief that Oldham and Scunthorpe are so bad.

Northampton Town have also had a blip of late winning just one of their last six games. Their most recent defeat came on Tuesday night against our relegation rivals Barrow.

HEAD TO HEAD

The Saddlers have lost just once in the last eight meetings between both sides here at the Banks’s Stadium.

The last game here back in February 2020, ended with a 3-2 victory for the Saddlers – thanks to a Rory Holden injury time winner.

MATCH PREDICTION

Given that both sides are struggling for a decent bit of form I guess it won’t be a classic and will end in stalemate. Although a last minute winner like last time out really wouldn’t go amiss.

We need to start getting victories and fast!
