An over head kick by Walsall centre back James Clarke was enough for the Saddlers to grab back to back wins for the first time in thirteen months and Darrell Clarke’s first home win as Walsall boss.

It was also our fifth clean sheet in ten league games as Scunthorpe struggled to get past the resolute defence.

The Saddlers started the game brightly with McDonald tormenting the Scunthorpe full backs but with no real threat at goal it was a struggle after that with the game dying a death until half time. There were a few moans and groans at the break to the annoyance of many inside the stadium. It was drab but not worthy of booing. Those fans can get in the bin – we need to be patient.

Those that were patient got their reward with an audacious over head kick following a short Walsall corner which saw Guthrie whip in a cross which Clarke found his inner Roger Boli to fire it into the top corner.

After that the Saddlers just shut up shop with Zak Jules and Dan Scarr impressing in the backline again.

The Saddlers rise to sixteenth in League 2 and with a few more Chris Nichollesque 1-0’s we will be right amongst them.

Ei oi Ei oi oh up the Football League we go…
