In a scrappy game Walsall came through against there championship opponents thanks to Scott Danns first goal for the club. Scott who is fighting for a place in centre of the Saddlers defence came on as a make shift centre forward in the 83rd minute. Two minutes later he latched onto Mark Wrights pass to finish from twelve yards out.

In a game where chances were few and far between, Plymouths Nick Chadwick missed there best two chances firing high over and then planting a header wide. Plymouth who had plenty of the ball but failed to make any impression on a well marshalled defence. Dean Keates had a couple of ‘pops’ from range without really troubling the Plymouth keeper.

So despite 5 minutes of added time the Saddlers ran out winners to progress into the next round. It is hard not to get carried away with a start which has seen four wins and a draw alongside four clean sheets. Whilst last nights win wasn’t as flowing as some of our football has been this season, Plymouth had a strong side and the changes that Manager Ian Holloway made in fact made the team stronger according to some members of the green army, perhaps with the exception of the missing Barry Hayles. However Saddlers will be encouraged by the fact we left behind, Mark Kinsella, Michael Dobson, Alan Picken, Martin Butler, Tony Bedeau, as well as Darren Wrack and Alex Nicholls. The future is bright if this rich vein of form continues.

“Sometimes you take the gamble and it comes off and it is very nice and very pleasing when that happens,” Money said.

“It was a good finish as well. He (Dann) is normally a centre-half but we were a little bit stretched up front tonight’.

“Tony Bedeau has been injured for a while and Martin Butler had a slight problem in his back yesterday, and with a very important league game at the weekend we thought it wasn`t right to risk him. It was pretty much all hands on deck up front.”

He added: “I thought we played with a tremendous shape tonight and we were very difficult to break down.”

Whilst Plymouth manager Ian Holloway seemed to be suffering from shock as he described the performance as good, decent and a number of other conflicting ideas

“We just didn`t score. We needed to make more of our possession, but that was a very, very good performance’.

“If it was a boxing match it would have been stopped in the second half. We just didn`t create enough and our final ball into the box wasn`t quite there’.

“They have had one shot on goal all game and scored with it, and sometimes at the moment we are not getting what we deserve.”

A word of warning, pride often comes before a fall, saturdays visitors Darlington bounced back from two defeats, to shock Stoke City 2-1. Despite being a goal down and reduced to ten men in the 12th minute. Old loanee favorite JJ geting the winner, his first goal for Darlington following his move from Boston for a fee which could rise to 200k.
