The club is in safe hands, as Dean Smith says he knows his best players for the job of survival.

He told the Express and Star: ‘Knowing how to handle them is part of my job and I know the ones who are ready and who you can trust….we see the players every day and I know what each one is about now ? mentally, physically, technically and tactically.’

The 40 year old has cut a keen figure at the Banks’s through his 23 game reign and has accumulated 28 points in that time.

He added: ‘It would have been nice to win (over easter) but we`re probably in the best position we`ve been in in the league since September..it`s a great stride from where we were in January.’

After tomorrow’s clash with Charlton, the Saddlers could be in a variety of positions given their and those under them results. So it’s a case of watching this space and praying.

Smith concluded: ‘But we can`t lose focus on our job and that`s to get three points against Charlton.”
