Don’t Press The Panic Button Just Yet

Saddlers went four home games without a win following yesterday’s defeat to Accrington Stanley.

Fact of the matter is the Saddlers counter attacking football is just not working at home with teams sitting back and hitting us on the counter. We have drawn with Blackpool and lost to Doncaster and Accrington – three games which this side should be winning if we are to maintain a top half finish.

A positive though, had we been able to take our chances yesterday or we hadn’t come up against the formidable Connor Ripley then we would have taken all three points.

Lets be honest that was a penalty. Early indications thought “oh we have another dodgy ref” but Osbourne was so lacklustre and took forever to hit the ball. Also had Ismail not dived so theatrically then we would have had a penalty of our own.

Theres no reason to push the panic button as we are still in seventh place however if we do want to remain amongst the promotion pack then we have got to change our approach at home. Connor Ronan and Andy Cook both came on as substitute yesterday and both failed to add anything to our approach, I genuinely think Kieron Morris is needed a lot more at home to break teams down.

As for a certain Facebook group discussing the “Keates Out” posts (which are non existent) its a dangerous game trying to get people talking about something that’s not there – do not try and push the popularity of your group by discussing non existent scenarios. We are better than that and quite frankly the negativity isn’t needed amongst a group of players and staff that are giving their all for the town and the badge.

We are a long long way away from being the finished article but Keates inherited a club in chaos and quite frankly has performed a minor miracle to get us where we are right now. It will take a few years to get us competing on a consistent basis. Just be patient.

Win on Tuesday against Shrewsbury, go back into the top six and I’m sure the last three home games will be forgotten about.
