Former West Bromwich Albion caretaker boss Keith Downing has emerged as the front runner to land the management job at Walsall.

Downing who is uncle of current Walsall centre half was rumoured to be in the running for the vacant job before Sean O’Driscoll took over from Dean Smith but it remains whether to be seen if Downing wants to leave his position as manager of England Under 20’s side.

Downing has a very poor record in management – just twenty six percent winning average but many feel he’s the perfect man manager to gain respect from the players instantly.

Current assistant boss Jon Whitney is second favourite at 5/4 with SkyBet.
