Eight Or Nine Players Did Nothing For Ninety Minutes

|

Walsall caretaker boss slammed the Walsall players again this morning claiming that eight or nine of the eleven did nothing for ninety minutes during our 2-1 defeat to Accrington on Saturday.

During his post match interview O’Connor labelled the players an embarrassment and this morning said eight or nine of them did nothing for ninety minutes – he also stated he had never been associated with a team that has not performed like that.

O’Connor has plenty of experience within the game having played for Crystal Palace, Walsall, Birmingham and Peterborough over a twenty year career so for him to suggest he’s never been part of a team like that speaks volumes for the current crop of players.

Speaking to Express and Star O’Connor said

“I have never been in a team or been associated with a team that has not performed,”

“It is something that is new to me. How can anybody be happy with that?

“There was nothing, it was a non-performance. It was embarrassment.

“The fans came out even though we have been on the run we’ve been on. And they expect to see us run about and make tackles, they expect to see energy and desire.

“But we had eight or nine players who did nothing for 90 minutes. The players have been told that, in no uncertain terms.”

The Saddlers are still somehow within touching distance from safety despite six straight defeats, but for us to have any chance the players need to step up for four remaining games before they depart the club in the summer – they owe us something!

Failure to beat Southend and get something from Wycombe over the Easter weekend will all but seal our relegation to League 2.

There is something fundamentally wrong with this club at the moment and more evidence that the hierarchy have made one mistake too many over the past five years.
