‘Alex the Greek had to be changed because he scared kids’

|

This week I chatted to ECFCTV to get a look at our opponents for Saturday’s encounter.

How’s your season been so far?

The seasons has been better than expected, we’ve got a well rounded squad and good strength in depth throughout the side. Our defence has been rock solid so far but has looked shaky at times and tends to sit too deep and invite pressure. However our attack has been creating chances by playing good attractive football but can’t seem to find the net at regularly at the moment, but we have pulled off significantly good results without playing to our best that’s something that has really improved and impressed me this season

Best Player?

Our best player at the moment is Jack Sparks or Randell Williams. Both have been excellent with work rate and change of pace. Sparks biggest asset is his feet he can pick a cross from anywhere and Williams has a fearlessness to take players on and he’s made a huge impression since moving to us in January last year and is improving every game.

Who is your Pantomime Villain?

Probably Kevin Ellison as he is a huge target for banter especially from the big bank with the classic ‘Harry Potter he’s coming for you and its great to watch because he gives it as good as he gets. Also Luke McCormick, it’s always a tasty affair when we play against him due to his Plymouth days and his past.

Favourite ever Exeter player?

During my 9 years as a Grecian I’ve seen many great players like Ryan Harley, Matt Grimes and Olllie Watkins to name a few, but Grimes was a dead ball specialist and could cause problems anywhere. Harley during his first spell was a joy to watch always knew how to pick a pass and he had a eye for goal, particularly the goal vs Huddersfield to keep us in league 1.

After missing out on the playoffs last season, can you keep this form up and stay in the top 3?

I would like to think so, especially now that we have key players coming back from injury in the new year, like Ajose and keeper Lewis Ward, so hopefully they can help us push on as we’ve been unlucky over previous seasons

Lee Holmes made a fleeting appearance on Loan for the Saddlers back in 2008, what are your thoughts on him?

Lee Holmes has been a good player for us when he’s played and was a major coup when he joined the club in 2015, but his time has been shortened due to injuries, but I don’t think he will play for us again which is a shame as he’s always looked a threat with his driving runs and eye for goal

Predictions for the weekend?

My prediction for the weekend is a 2-1 win for City because we’ve been strong at home and won our last 3. But Walsall will prove tough opposition with the likes of Liam Kinsella and Rory Gaffney and a promising manager in Darrell Clarke

Finally, one random fact about your club?

One of our former mascots Alex the Greek had to be changed because he scared kids.
