Walsall were left ill at ease at they missed opportunities in a match they dominated against a Leyton Orient side who were only a couple of points behind them. On a rain soaked pitch it was the Saddlers who made all the pressing with the Southern visitors happy to absorb long prolonged periods of pressure.

Walsall played some smart football on the struggling pitch and Orient’s defenders had to make some last ditch tackles to stop them from breaking through. Orient rarely threatened and were left ball watching for long periods of time as the Saddlers probed to find a way of breaking their back four.

Half time came and Orient were happy to go in all level, the Saddlers were looking tired and lacking in quality in the final third except for the exception of Tommy Mooney.

The second half was the same story and the game should have been settled on the hour mark. On loan Lee Holmes drifting a beautiful cross to the back post but Wrack took his eye of the ball and header wide on his knees. With that chance seemingly went the game.

Orient in the last ten minutes looked to land an undeserved sucker punch and much to the delight of their tiny away following forced two corners. Boyd in the closing moments had his firm drive blocked by Ince. It looked like nil nil and Orient resumed to time wasting to see out the game.

One last chance, a Taundry free kick was headed towards goal by Mooney but Nelson got down smartly to turn the ball away. In all it was a dissapointing night for the Saddlers and it was two points dropped.

But the Saddlers do sit pretty around the League’s summit and will be more comfortable in playing Carlisle – a side who will play more open.
