A Fans View – Bradford City
Name: James Storrie
First Bradford Game: Carlisle at home 1995-1996 season, aged 4, we won 3-1.
Best Bradford FC Moment Whilst Supporting Them: There’s been a few! Of all time it would be David Wetherall’s header and subsequent celebrations after avoiding relegation from the Premier League on the last day. More recently it has to be the cup run from the 2012-13 season which produced some truly amazing nights such as Wigan away, the Arsenal game and the Villa games. They were just so action packed with unforgettable memories.
Favourite All Time Bradford City Player: An easy one – Stuart McCall.
A random fact we might not know about Bradford City: We won the FA Cup in 1911, we have a star on our kit above the badge to represent this.
Any Memories of Walsall v Bradford match: Not any vivid ones in all honesty, however I do remember the away game last season where we won 2-0 and the team performed excellently in the absence of former star man Nahki Wells.
Your Dangermen: We have a lot of new signings that are bedding in nicely; keep an eye out for both our ‘Billy’s’ Clarke and Knott who are excellent technically. However our main dangerman is a real throwback and local hero James Hanson ( he used to work at the co-op!) who is superb in the air and we’re not afraid to utilise this with plenty of cross-field balls and crosses into the box.
Your ‘Weaklink’: We’ve adopted a new diamond formation this season and lack any real width, which can lead to our fullbacks becoming exposed on occasions when opposing wingers and fullbacks combine. We also lack any genuine pace in the side currently, however newly signed Mason Bennett on loan from Derby should help to combat this. This may be slightly unfair but our young loan keeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland impressed last week with his distribution but looked suspect with crosses and commanding his area.
Your expectations for Bradford this season: Our budget has been cut by 500k and ranks about 14th in the league overall so anywhere above this position could be considered successful. However our manager always has us fit and well organised and if we can keep our key players fit, we could push for the last playoff spot as our defence is excellent. Especially when it contains our key man Andrew Davies who is our colossus at the back and makes us hard to beat.
Your League 1 2014/15 Predictions:
Promoted: Sheff Utd, Bristol City – Big budgets and recruited well.
Play Off Winners: Preston
Relegation: Crewe (a lot of other teams that will be down there that are hard to call)
Your prediction for tomorrows game: 1-0 Walsall
Add anything else you think we may enjoy to read….. Our cup game against Leeds is going to be on TV in a couple of weeks time hopefully this might be the start of another epic fairytale…
We would like to thank James for taking his time out and giving us an insight into tomorrows opponents Bradford City and also his time as a Bantam Supporter.
We wish Bradford the best of luck for the season……after tomorrow obviously!
