Walsall head coach Michael Flynn paid tribute to his former club Newport County despite suffering abuse during the Saddlers 1-0 win.

Flynn showed his class and felt Newport were the better side and admitted her has never wanted Newport to lose.

Despite Flynn enjoying many happy years at Newport, turning them from League 2 strugglers to a force in the division and taking them on numerous cup runs he received abuse from a small section of home supporters.

“I had the insults off the pitch, stones were getting thrown by the supporters behind,”

“I think the best team lost, if I’m totally honest. A bit of a surreal feeling after because I’ve never wanted Newport ever to lose.

“But some of the comments from the fans behind me, calling my wife all-sorts, were absolutely disgusting so it probably makes it easier to accept the win.”

The Saddlers sit top of League 2 as we welcome Stevenage next weekend.
