Former Oxford United Keeper On Trial With Walsall

|

Former Oxford United goalkeeper Niall Clayton is amongst the starting XI for today’s reserve team fixture against Scunthorpe United.

Todays team is made up of youth and development players with no first team regulars listed.

Clayton graduated from the Oxford youth team last summer and had a stint on loan at Thame United, Banbury United and Chesham United before earning a call-up to a training camp with Wales under 21s in March this year before being released by the O’s at the end of last season.

It seems that Walsall boss Darrell Clarke is already beginning to identify players to strengthen his struggling side. A struggling side which has lost five games on the trot and conceded twenty-three goals in the league this season.

Walsall number one goalkeeper Liam Roberts has recently lost his place in the starting XI with Southampton loanee youngster Jack Rose replacing him.

It will be interesting to see whether Clayton is looked at further….the last keeper we had with Clayton in his name didn’t do too badly…
