Torquay United
We all knew that it wasn`t going to be plain sailing for the Gulls, but in manager Ian Atkins I thought they had a manager who would keep them up all be it in the lower reaches of league two. We also knew his style would not be pleasing on the eye and this would attract some critics. Well things have changed at Plainmoor.
Out goes the Chairman, in comes a new man, warning bells start ringing, promises are been made but no real comitment made. A promise of a new ground but other parties involved are not sure. Will the club be assist stripped. Manager Ian Atkins refuses move “upstairs” and goes. New manager is unheard of could be good could be bad. Goal keeper refuses to sign contract extension and is on his way. Finally club hit rock bottom and crash to the bottom of the league, oh yes they face second from bottom Macclesfield in the next game. Enough goings on for any club in a season let alone five months.
Make no mistake January could be crucial to not only the future of league football at Torquay but also the very future of the club its self. If monies are not released by the chairman to strengthen then they will go down. If monies are not forthcoming many will question his plans for the club.
I fear Torquay will be hosting Conference football in August, not due to a lack of footballing ability but due to a series of mismanagement.
