Here we go again, its FA Cup time

What a week for the Saddlers, a good win and a return to the top spot. Just what Dickie ordered I think. It was always going to be tense when you haven`t conceded a league goal on your own turf and you`re playing a team who hadn`t scored a goal in six games. But, everything went as well as Walsall fans wanted, another clean sheet with another three points. If there are still Walsall fans complaining about that, then what can you do? And the thing that makes me sick is the fact that there will be some Walsall fans out there that will constantly criticise the team; and not the constructive type. You just want to shove the record book for this season at some of them and then shout ‘will you please just go and support another team` – I could have said something else there, but for the purpose of a family audience, you appreciate the position I am in.

Also, how could I not mention that rumour that has been weaving its way around all unofficial Walsall sites? ‘Deadly Doug` to Walsall. Of course, this will never happen in a million years, but the person who posted the rumour said it was from a ‘reliable source.` Obviously not. As a journalist, the first thing they teach you is that you will get ‘tip-offs,` and to be warned of them because they are not always true, while landing you in trouble at the same time. The person who heard this and posted it is taking the biscuit and must be off their tree. Firstly, ‘Deadly Doug` is, as we say, getting on a bit and has quit Villa because of this. Why would he want to invest £14 million or £16 million in a club like Walsall? It doesn`t make sense, especially with the bit about him wanting to take us into the Premiership within seven years. OK, you just do that, ha ha! It is not true, as a national would`ve picked the story up.

Another topic for discussion – the FA Cup. It all begins for real this coming weekend, so look out for the special FA Cup preview this Friday. Macclesfield is our port of destination for Round One, and it could be our last if we do not perform, especially considering a few million people will be casting their eyes over the League Two leaders and the League Two basement club, as the game will be on Sky and possibly in a Public House near you. Personally, I am not bothered if Ince`s Silkmen beat us, but as a fan I want my club to be involved in a good cup run (so I am really). Perhaps this will be the year to progress past round six and go where no Walsall team has gone before. And, the funniest thing is, we seem to be preparing to exit the FA Cup because Keatsey has said to the media: ‘we are concentrating on the league.` OK Deano, that`s fine. But, surely the biggest domestic cup competition in the world is a big enough motivation to go to Moss Rose and kick the living daylights out of (no disrespect) an average Macclesfield side. I wait with a fixed expression of ‘oh God, here we go again!`
