Hold’en out for a Hero!

He is the player we wanted, and it is a signing that has sent the fans into what is more commonly known as ‘absolute scenes’, much like his late winner against Northampton.

Rory Holden has today become a Saddler for the second time, however this time, it is permanent. Firstly, I am delighted that we have been able to sign him again, and for him to be our player. Obviously we do not know how much he will have cost the club, and I don’t see the powers that be paying over the odds for him, but nonetheless, we have spent money for him, and I think it is great that we have been able to manage our finances well enough to buy a player. Hopefully he has signed for a few seasons, and I cannot realistically see him moving for a shorter deal, or the club paying for a player and not offering him a longer contract.

We know what player we are getting with Holden, his second half of the season was brilliant, he started finding the back of the net, and his link-up play was improving. He became a key player. His first half of the season was tough for Rory, his form was mixed, and the fans couldn’t understand why we signed him. He proved why we did, and many were calling for the club to sign him permanently, which is testament to the lad, and shows mental strength too.

He also knows every player that we have. He was a part of the team from last season, and comes from Bristol City, the same as Nurse. This is also good for George Nurse, who will now have someone he knows very well.

I want to see Holden playing in that more advanced midfield role, rather than an out and out winger, as he shone in that position. I think joining a settled team where he knows the players, means he can hit the ground running and continue his end of season form.

What do you think? Are you happy with the signing? Or is it not the time to be paying for players? Let me know!
