Chris Hutchings has criticised those who booed during the 3-1 defeat to Peterborough yesterday, but has seemingly mistook their intentions at the players, rather than himself.
Booing, as well as ‘we want Hutchings out’ chants echoed around the Banks’s throughout the game, with booing noticeably louder at the shock substitution of Reid replacing Macken.
Hutchings, speaking to the Express and Star, said the fans ‘must have been watching a different game.’
‘They can see the lads are giving 100 per cent and I think it was a bit unjust. If they do question the effort on that performance they are watching a different game.’
The Saddlers worked hard during last nights game, are slowly improving as the fans increasingly direct their boos from the players to the manager. It would be a different story for the fans if Walsall had only lost a few games in a temporary lapse, but the slide is now too steep for sections of the fans to bear Hutchings at the club any longer.
However, Hutchings rightly pointed out that fans should get behind their players and turn their boos into more positive singing.
He continued: ‘”It affects players, they get a little bit despondent and low on confidence but you have to be man enough and big enough to get through it and I`m sure we will. If we keep performing like that we will win.’
Some fans are at rock bottom with the situation at Walsall, but a positive atmosphere at the Banks’s can never do any harm. With every loss and no sacking, it is unclear exactly what will cost Hutchings his job. The manager will never come out a publicly admit his downfall, but it doesnt make it any less frustrating for fans to hear today’s comment. So on Saturday, lets get behind our boys!
