Hutchings had said that he must give Jamie Paterson time to spread his wings, after an impressive full first team début on Saturday.

The 18 year old midlfielder slotted in behind 19 year old Darryl Westlake and put in a tight performance. He gave the Saddler squad a boost with his performance, emerging from the bench which is mostly made up of youth team members.

Hutchings told the Express and Star: ‘I thought it was a good full debut. I was pleased with his contribution….It was a learning curve for him…he looked very lively and elusive and we know he can cause teams problems. He sees a pass well.’

However, the gaffer is clear he won’t pile the pressure on him as he is still developing his game.

He added:”We`ve got to treat him carefully and not expect too much too soon but he`s got a freedom and a quality a lot of players don`t have.”

Paterson certainly did calm my nerves after it was revealed he was starting. He seemed to put himself in good positions and receive and deliver the ball well. He is so slight in stature at the moment, but he has the makings of an excellent player. As we have Jones and Taundry to return from injury we now have cover in the lad if we need to call upon him.
