Lets not beat around the bush – Saturdays hammering at Barnsley was up there with the inept performances we have seen of late!
It was just as bad as Orient at home, not much better than Bradford away and equally as dull as Port Vale at home.
What has gone wrong at WS1? Quite simple….Wembley.
Before our area final with Preston we found ourselves on the brink of the play offs, Bradshaw was scoring goals for fun and we weren’t conceding many…as soon as Wembley was confirmed, our season went down the pan.
Many say cup runs bring excitement and improvements from players however in true Walsall fashion we somehow manage to make something so good seem so bad.
The lack of depth within in our squad could be a major factor as injuries to Chambers, Henry, Bradshaw, Cook and Forde in recent weeks has had an influence however with Hiwula now taking over from Bradshaw as our goal scoring machine it still doesnt bode well with MK Dons and Sheffield United up next at the Bezla!
As Walsall fans we expect the players to work hard. We know we aren’t going to pull up many trees but all we ask for is commitment and the inept performances of late isn’t acceptable and must stop….along with Smith’s regurgitated post match analysis!
Following the defeat against Vale, Orient and Barnsley – Smith has managed to blame sarcastic chants, poor officiating and poor playing surfaces…yet he fails to be honest and blame the players for their minds being focussed on Sunday 22nd March instead.
Whatever happens at the capital on Sunday 22nd March remains to be seen but given all the players have been ‘on holiday’ since it was confirmed, we expect them to actually take the game to Bristol otherwise a heavy defeat (which is possible given our run) and another dip in the league will put a downer on what could have been a historic year for Walsall Football Club.
