Is it time to say goodbye?

|

This week, Darrell Clarke gave an update on a whole host of players, one of those was Kory Roberts.

Clarke spoke about how he needs to see more from Kory for him to be starting matches. As things stand, Jules appears to be the third choice CB with James Clarke out injured. When JC returns, he may well be either starting, or sat on the bench, pushing Kory further down the pecking order. Could this mean he is on his way out at the end of the season?

I really want Kory to succeed here, probably more than any other of our current players. His injury, his fight back to fitness, and how he has handled himself within the community are all things I admire. Above that, I think he is a talented player, and believe he was destined for big things before his horrific injury.

In October 2018, Walsall triggered a clause to extend Kory’s contract to this summer, and is in a position where he could be one of those moved on.

I, personally, feel a years extension to give him a full pre-season and build up to a campaign, would do him the world of good as a developing player. He wasn’t quite ready for pre season this time around, and I think it is massive for a players development, and preparation for the upcoming season.

I hope I am wrong about this, but I just get the feeling we won’t be seeing Kory next season. However if Darrell wants to prove me wrong I will be very happy.

I’d keep Kory. I think he has more potential than Clarke and Jules and could push for a starting place next season if he gets a whole pre-season under his belt.
Roberts just need to find the tempo and get match experience after being out so long with the injury. Darrell are right in it is up to Kory since it is him that has to push in training and when he gets the chance.
