Martin Devaney has said that he would return to Walsall if the offer was right, after an injury cut short a successful loan spell last season.

The 30 year old has been released by Barnsley, as Dean Smith looks to improve the squad over the summer after offloading 9 players.

Devaney told the Express and Star: “You never discount anyone and Walsall might come in with an offer I can`t refuse..If Dean calls, we`ll have a discussion and take it from there.’

He made only 5 appearances and scored once, but got injured in the 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town in the FA Cup 1st round.

Devaney also kept up with the changing events at the Banks’s through Jon Macken. ‘ “I spoke to Jon Macken the other week and he said all the lads have been buzzing and Dean put them in a position to keep them in the league.” He added.

The midfielder would be a welcome figure at the Banks’s but it’s very early days. There were several impressive loanees last season and Devaney was one of them, alongside Andrew Davies and Matt Gill.

It will be a waiting game as we see who Dean Smith can secure in the close season.
