A flurry of activity on social networks yesterday revealed those who were released or offered new contracts.

Dean Smith sat down with those out of contract at the end of this season and told them whether they were to stay or go.

However, the situations of those involved have already been plastered over Facebook and Twitter before an official announcement by the club has been made.

Byfield announced on Twitter in the morning that himself and Aaron Lescott were to leave. The two aging stars were not offered new contracts by Dean Smith.

Will Grigg then announced on Twitter that his 1.30pm meeting with the gaffer had ‘gone well’ indicating he was offered a new contract.

Youngster Alex Hickman then revealed on his Facebook mid afternoon that himself, Paul Marshall, Jonny Brain and Clayton McDonald were not offered new contracts and fellow youngster George Bowerman got 6 months. Hickman also wrote as his status ‘That’s me then, been a pleasure … on the odd occasion’ reflecting his frustrations after failing to break into the first team since signing a professional deal 1 year ago.

The evening saw Oliver Lancashire tell everyone on Twitter he was staying at Walsall, with a rumoured 1 year contract.

That leaves the futures of Matthew Richards, Julian Gray, much wanted Andy Butler and Jimmy Walker to be announced.

So we wait for more news! The official site better get to it!

Offered Contracts so far: Lancashire, Grigg

Released so far: Marshall, McDonald, Hickman, Brain, Byfield, Lescott
