Joe Edwards Signs New Deal

|

Walsall have this afternoon announced that vice captain and last years player of the season, Joe Edwards has signed a new one year deal with the club, with an additional year in the clubs favour.

Edwards joined the Saddlers from Colchester in 2016 and has scored ten goals in eighty two appearances for the Saddlers.

Due to his performances last season Joe Edwards scooped the fans player of the year award despite missing the second half of the season with an ACL injury.

That ACL injury is set to keep Edwards out until October/November but when he is back fit we will benefit the rewards and him and George Dobson will form a formidable look in our central midfield position.

Edwards started his youth career at Aston Villa before making his professional debut with Bristol City in 2010. Edwards went on loan to a few clubs during his stint at Ashton Gate and it was Yeovil where he was noticed and signed with the Glovers in 2013. In his first season at Yeovil he helped them gain promotion to the Championship for the first time in their history.

Unfortunatly their stint in the Championship was short lived and in the 2014/15 season he was named club captain. The Glovers suffered their second successive relegation into League 2 and that summer Edwards joined League 1 Colchester.

Colchester were subsequently relegated that season and he joined the Saddlers on a free in the summer of 2016.

Everyone wishes Joe a quick and speedy recovery and can’t wait to see him back in a red shirt soon.

Oh eh oh, we got Joey Edwards…..
