Jorge’s one to watch

Lee Trundle, a true folk hero in the valleys isn’t certain to play on Sunday due to a reoccurence of his recent stomach muscle strain. However manager Kenny Jacket is hopeful he will be pulling on the number ten shirt.

Saddlers didn’t get to see Lee in action at Bescot earlier in the season, and Swansea still scored five, so what can we expect from the scouse lad in his adopted welsh homeland.

Well in this season he has struck 20 goals, scoring 3 goals in his last four appearences, with the last game cut short by injury. He has hit one hat trick this season, against Chesterfield in Swansea’s 5-1 home win in October.

His career stats are not any less impressive, with him averaging a goal every other game. He spent his early years in the non league scene, which probably contributed to his honest approach and desire to do well in the game, he knows just how lucky an individual is to be able to make a living out of sport. His early days at Staylbridge,Southport and Rhyl brought him to the attention of Wrexham who took the gamble of bringing him into the proffessional game. His goalscoring exploits and a growing reputation brougth him to Swansea in July 2003 and the rest so they say is history.

Lee Trundle is not what you would expect from a big lower league striker. As he has more than his fair share of skill and a sure touch on the ball and of course what all successful strikers have, a sixth sense od where the net is.

The six foot striker from Liverpool has strongly been linked with a move to the club he supported as a child- Everton. This possibly the only club which could tempt Lee away from Swansea. However the Swans have done there best to keep him and it is reported that Lee gets a percentage of profit from items sold with his name on from the club shop. A deal more likely associated with a Mr Beckham or such like.

So what does the future hold. Well the future is looking bright for Swansea, 1-0 up in the LDV semi final and pushing hard to join rivals Cardiff in the Championship. This up turn has been supported with a heavy investment in quality players. I would expect Lee to be at Swansea for quite a few season’s to come and at 29 even see his career out at Swansea…..unless Everton come calling with an open cheque book, since Swansea won’t let there favorite scouser go on the cheap.
