Jorge’s Post Mortem

If anyone thought we had turned the corner and we were going to climb out of thee relegation fight with little problem had a reality check last night. Hopefully this morning the players have woken up and smelt the coffee.

The fact that the performance after the first goal was of a standard below what you would have expected from relegation certainties is worrying. Remember though no matter how disappointing last night was nothing has been decided. Yes it is a set back, but I remember winning at Derby and everything seemed rosey, but we ended up relelgated. We wrote in the match preview that nothing would be settled on last nights game win or lose, we must keep that focus.

Let’s look at some key points.
The Defence
Roper had the worse game since Ray Graydon took him off against Northampton after half a hour in his first promotion season, The defence that looked solid against some of the best attackers in the league were in pieces. This was down to a lack of cover from midfield.

As for Chris Westwood, a lot of people has high expectations which he has not lived upto. But he doesn’tbecome a bad player over night. I feel he suffered because he didn’t havea commanding centre half next to him. He is the sweeping type of defender to mop up. We need to give him a second chance.

The Loan players
We have a number of loan players who have ability and have proven this in recent away games. Last night raised the question do they have pride in the shirt do they actually care. If not send them back.

Kris Taylor
Is he good enough, on his day yes, he had a problem with Merse and a reported attitude problem at Man Utd. But it is my view get him back and let him fight for his career here. Perhaps a simlar case could be made about Daryl Taylor ?

The Strikers
We know that we need a goalscorer, the current choices have had a chance, and although the service has been questionable they have not come up with the goods. So isn’t time for James Constable to have a go.
But more importantly some must come in we are after experience, but if we can’t get that then do we risk another young player in the top of his form.

The Fans
The fans have been super in recent away games and last night the team gave us nothing to shout about. But the facts are simple if we want to get out of this we are in this together. If we are divided we shall fail. There is a need to be loud and proud, proud to be a Saddler and forgive what we have in front of us until we are safe.
