Goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray has this evening announced his departure from the Saddlers via the increasingly popular ‘iPhone note’.

MacGillivray explains on his Twitter page that he needs to ‘kick on and progress.’

It’s well known that Manager Jon Whitney has been holding meetings with his out of contract players today and it’s unclear whether it’s MacGillivray’s decision to leave after not receiving guarantees about playing time, or if Whitney doesn’t see him as part of his plans.

Either way, the Saddlers will almost certainly be looking for a new number goalkeeper in the summer with Neil Etheridge also expected to leave the club.

Whitney is expected to be speaking with his contracted players tomorrow with the full released and retained list to be issued in the near future…
