Walsall fans have expressed their anger via social media regarding the decision to include Premier League Under 21 sides in the newly named EFL Trophy from next season.

For a one year trial period, sixteen of the countries top academy sides will enter the EFL Trophy first round. They will be joined by the forty eight League 1 and League 2 clubs and be split into sixteen groups of four – with one academy side in each group.

The Premier League have agreed to bump up the coffers and will inject an additional £1m into the competition.

Yesterday we asked Walsall fans via our Twitter channel for their opinion on the decision…

We received over 200 votes and the results were as follows –

67% – Disappointed and will boycott competition.
26% – hurt but will still go to the matches.
7% – support the decision

Walsall are set to make an announcement this morning on how they voted at the AGM regarding the proposal.
