The excitement of capturing Andreas Makris in a club record transfer fee last summer has certainly worn off for most Saddlers fans, but the Cypriot will be hoping he can prove his doubters wrong in 2017/18.

Whilst the majority of the support accepts that the transition from Cypriot football to the harsh realities of League One is not easy, his return of just one goal all season fell well short of expectations. Whose fault that is, is an interesting question but Makris needs to develop his game over the summer and hit the ground running next season if he is to make it in the English game.

Speaking to the Express & Star Makris spoke about his time in Cyprus and some of the accolades he received whilst playing there.

‘I was voted best player of the year, best young player of the year and best Cypriot scorer of the year.”

Do you think Makris will make it at Walsall, or will he be the next Carlos Carneiro?
