Walsall boss Dean Smith has today confirmed that an offer is on the table for former Reading and Coventry striker Mathieu Manset, but did confirm that the deal isnt going to be there long.
Smith said “I have offered him a one-year contract with the option that if he plays a certain number of games a second year kicks in.
“Unfortunately he is not taking that bait at the moment. We are in a little bit of a stalemate but it is still bubbling along. Unless he finds something else, that is what`s on the table for him.”
Manset has been offered a one year deal with the Saddlers, with the option of a second, however Manset wants a two year deal to act as stability for his family who currently reside in France.
Manset was a instant hit with the Saddlers faithful following his goal against Leicester and his assist for Ashley Grimes and many see Manset as the Plan B which we badly missed last season.
Smith also confirmed that should Manset not sign the deal, he would have other options to turn to should he need to.
Smith said ‘The offer is there. If he comes back to me in the next 24 to 48 hours and says he wants to accept it than I think we go with it but I am also looking at other avenues as well.
“I have a couple of things bubbling along at the moment which we have been hoping might come off. You are a little spoiled for choice with what is out there.”
