Tomorrow, Walsall begin a month where we play either teams at the top, or teams at the bottom, in what will be a stern test for Darrell Clarke’s side.
We have 6 games scheduled between now and March 31st, and within that, a real mixed bag of matches. Tomorrow, we face promotion pushing Exeter, followed by teams struggling below us such in Macclesfield, Oldham and Mansfield. Another tough game then faces us as we welcome Swindon, before ending the month away at rock-bottom Stevenage, in the rescheduled match.
We have a chance to get some more points on the board. An optimist would say we can pick up at 12 points, a realist would say 9. Me? I feel that if we can get into double figures then that will be good. Exeter will not be an easy game, however we will be much fresher than they are, as they have played both last Saturday, and mid-week too. There is an opportunity, they have not been in the best of form, with two draws in a row and a loss before that. So they are there for the taking.
If we avoid defeat against Exeter then we will have gone 5 games unbeaten, with a real chance to extend that to 8 games (in my opinion). Pre-season, I felt that a top 10 finish would be a good finish, and if we want to achieve this, then we need to make the games against those teams below us count, something we all know we do not do enough. Another small aim I think they team should aim for is a positive goal difference, it won’t be easy, however our current -11 is 4th worst in League 2, and it has to change.
We are set for a good crowd tomorrow, with Walsall fans snapping up tickets to see us play Exeter. We also have the Friend for Fiver ticket offer in operation for our match against Oldham on 17th, so hopefully we will see another good crowd. During the month, the club are also running the early bird season ticket campaign, with sales at around 40% higher than at this stage last year.
