Martin Butler on the move

Martin Butler who was subject to an accepted bid from Peterborough in August has been placed on the transfer list. Martin who couldn’t agree personal terms at London road has been after a contract extention to his present deal which runs out in June 2008.

However despite feeling that there was a verbal agreement to have a new deal put on the table, the club have felt that his level of performance have not been of a standard where they were comfortable in offering a new deal. This is despite his appearance as captain in the home defeat against Oldham. We will have to wait and see if we have seen the last of Butler in a Walsall shirt as he didn’t make the 16 on saturday.

From the clubs point of view a loan move out of Walsall with a view to a move on a full time basis would be ideal. Otherwise we maybe paying him to stay in the reserves.

What fee is been asked is uncertain but I would expect it to be a lot lower than the rumoured Peterborough bid of 100k. Especially as he could move for free in June 2008.
