The Saddlers opened our League 1 campaign with a 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

Walsall went a goal down in the fortieth minute as Ryan Edwards scored on his return from battling testicular cancer after the Walsall defence switched off for the Plymouth free kick.

On the stroke of half time the Saddlers were on level terms as new signing Morgan Ferrier burst into the box with speed and power and was brought down by Joe Riley. Andy Cook missed the initial spot kick but converted the rebound.

In the second half left back Luke Leahy beautifully dispatched a free kick into the corner and gave Matt Macey no chance.

Andy Cook could have put the game to bed in the final few minutes but his effort hit the inside of the post and bounced to safety.

The Saddlers now travel to Scunthorpe United hoping to continue their 100% start to the League 1 season.
