Mullen light?

Jimmy Mullen has replaced DD as the new manager and Ropes and Wracky have left. Things are starting to change at WS1. Unfortunately for some, this is not going to see the swift departure of everyone`s favourite scapegoat and owner Jeff Bonser. Some will have seen Mullen as the ‘easy-choice` (well?.everyone saw that it was except Bonser), the one that makes the most sense in terms of saving money, but at least we know he can wheel ‘n` deal! He has a squad to re-build, something which any Walsall fan could not have predicted at Christmas. Let`s just hope that Jimbo doesn`t bring in an old Cavalier to do the job in midfield and looks more for the two-litre Merc!

Rumours have escalated since the appointment, with Saddlers old-boy Craig Pead, currently at Brentford, being strongly linked with a move back to the Banks`s. To be honest, anyone will do so long as we can send out a starting XI at the start of the season! One thing we really do need is a striker, as we only have two of them and both of them can not hit a barn door at one pace – if anything the barn door hits them to remind them where they should be aiming! No worries though, Nicholls and Deeney will soon leave and lift the curse that any other young promising star has had while being at Walsall – I present Karl Hawley, Andy Bishop, Michael Ricketts (England Cap!!!!), and Matty Fryatt (oh hang on a minute!). Akinfenwa had been linked with a move, but he has now signed a new one-year deal with Northampton so Mullen will need to either declare an interest or work a bit harder if he is to attract his targets.

Truth to be told, the future at the moment is looking bleak – but hey, we are Walsall, we can be full of surprises!
