The Saddlers have signed centreback Andy Butler, to help ease the defensive woes for the Saddlers.

Butler, a 6ft left footed central defender and 27 years old, started his career at Scunthorpe United, making 306 appearances and spent some time on loan at Grimsby Town, making 11 appearances. He then moved to Huddersfield Town in 2008 making 58 appearances, enjoying a further loan spell at Blackpool, making 7 appearances as they gained promotion to the Premier League last season.

He left Huddersfield at the end of last season by mutual consent and joins Walsall after impressing in the 7-0 reserves drubbing of Rotherham on Tuesday.

Saddlers boss Chris Hutchings told the official website: ”He’s got the leadership qualities that we are looking for and is not afraid to get stuck in. He’s got a good left foot and is strong in the air.’

As he goes straight into the squad for tomorrows meeting with Bournemouth, he seems like a quality player on paper. It was a shame to lose Andrew Davies to injury, let’s hope Butler will have the potential to bring stability and security to the back four.
