Not one of the Bescot faithful would have guessed the identity of our latest signing. In fact none of the rumour Mill sources had put this name forward and none of the many other Walsall sites had sugested Michael Dobson as a possible Walsall target.

Although many Walsall fans could be excused for saying who, he is in fact an excellent signing. The 25 year old has been on the books of Brentford since signing school boy forms at the age of nine. He has been highly regarded at Griffin Park by a number of previous managers. In fact Steve Coppell was so impressed that he took Micheal with him to Reading on loan. However he failed to break in to the record breaking side. Although he did receive an offer to make the move more permanent, but this offer would have meant reserve team football which is something he didn’t want.

Richard Money is delighted with the signing who was captain of the Brentford team at the age of 20 and brings with him a wealth of leadership qualities. Michael Dobson is a strong powerful player who was well liked at Brentford, he played at right full back, right and central midfield. This will bring competition for places and cover for that troublesome right back slot.

However I would expect him to be more at home in midfield to proved the strenght we need at this level, especially with the departure of Simon Osborn, Micheal Dobson fits the discription of the type of player Richard Money said he wanted to bring in 100%.

Micheal Dobson made 164 league appearances for Brentford scoring 3 goals, only making one sub league appearance for Reading. It says much for the selling ability of the manager and the ambition of the club to move forward again that we beat Championship and league one clubs to his signiture. Micheal hopes that the second year of his two year deal is spent in league one.
