Next Walsall Manager Odds

|

So we are on the lookout for our fourth manager in the space of four years following the dismissal of Dean Keates yesterday.

Sky Bet have initially put out odds of who they feel could be next boss and some interesting names are already in the frame.

It seems likely that the club will appoint Martin O’Connor or someone else close to the club until the end of the season and Sky Bet odds are of who will be in the dugout on the opening day of next season.

Latest odds (via Sky Bet)

Chris Powell 7/2

Paul Hurst 7/1

Darrell Clarke 8/1

Keith Downing 9/1

Kevin Nolan 10/1

Zigor Aranalde 12/1

Darren Moore 14/1

Tim Flowers 14/1

Harry Kewell 16/1

Lee Carsley 16/1

Phil Parkinson 16/1

Stuart McCall 16/1

Some interesting names on that list most notably Paul Hurst who has already proven he is capable of managing smaller budgets and being successful – his stints at Grimsby and Shrewsbury proved that. Many will forget his stint at Ipswich as he was on a hiding to nothing.

Darrell Clarke – he had a large budget at Bristol Rovers but he did get them promoted from League 2 and guided them to mid table in League 1.

Keith Downing – a man that has often been linked with the role but has been overlooked on numerous occasions.

Zigor Aranalde – He is regarded as a superb coach at Watford but we need to get away from former players returning. Also we can’t afford to pay compensation when we are now paying off two managers.

Kevin Nolan, Harry Kewell, Phil Parkinson and Stuart McCall can all get in the bin for us – four managers that have no proven their managerial credentials in all their previous jobs.

Give the last three appointments you could imagine Jeff going back to his tried and tested rigourous interviews and the man that will take over the hot seat probably isn’t even known in the footballing world.

Id rather we went after a Graydon/Money type than some of the names mentioned.
