When Walsall kicked off the season with a 1-1 draw against Carlisle at the newly crowned Banks’s Stadium, people could’ve been forgiven for thinking that this season was not going to be as straight forward as it seemed. It turns out that it isn’t…and it never was. Just becasue we were champions last season, we were never going to hit the ground running, especially with the summer signings we have made. They all seem to have started their careers before the druids even existed, which explains the lack of energy so far this season, so much so DD has now decided to play Demontagnac and Mark Bradley. They are both young and hungry for action, but is it going to be enough for us this season? I think it might just do the trick, but there needs to be another midfielder come in.

This brings me onto my next point – the persisting speculation of a move for Leeds United’s Jonathan Douglas. If the rumours are true, then this would be a great move for the club, as well as unbelieve in the sense that Walsall are spending some money. To be honest, this is what makes the story sound like a load of Steve Bull to be fair, as £400,000 is like Chelsea buying Ronaldinhno for all the money in the world. That isn’t going to happen, and I seriously doubt that Douglas will be at the Banks’s Stadium anytime soon…apart from when he plays for Leeds of course.

Lastly, last night’s 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth is a wake up call – as if the Gillingham game wasn’t, or even the Swansea and leyton Orient matches. Playing Darren Wrack and Danny Fox in central midfield is an interesting concept, but probably no at the same time. It didn’t work on Tuesday night and won’t work against Port Vale on Saturday. Dobson needs to be in there with Foxy or another midfielder that will bomb forward and have his fair share of goals. Well…someone’s got to score them, the strikers certainly aren’t.
