Walsall caretaker boss Martin O’Connor has today confirmed he will have no say on what players are retained/released.
There are nineteen players out of contract this summer and it just beggars belief that we sit here without a manager or knowing what players will remain next season – this short term vision by the board is just hopeless isn’t it.
Speaking to Express and Star, Martin O’Connor said
“That situation is nothing to do with me now,”
“It’ll be for the club and whoever takes the reins.”
When Dickie Dosh took over he was able to decide what players he wanted to retain/release heading into our League 2 campaign. The new manager will have to go off his past experience of playing against us and go off the words and advice of the staff around him (yes that group of staff that have done nothing for months)
Fans took to Twitter yesterday to discuss who should stay with the club. The most common consensus was Devlin, Kinsella and Edwards – there were mentions for Dunn and Morris too. However the rest of the squad were deemed surplus to requirements.
Its safe to say that we are behind most League 2 clubs at present as they already have a manager in place and already have an idea what players they want to keep for next season.
It really is a mess.
