Players Have Got To Give Something Back To Fans

|

Walsall caretaker boss Martin O’Connor has today told his players that they need to give something back to the fans.

O’Connor who took over from Dean Keates yesterday has already told the players that they need to start performing if they are to have any chance of staying in League 1 and has called on the players to give a spirited “Walsall FC performance” when we travel to Accrington on Saturday.

Speaking to official site O’Connor said

“We need to stick together now and we need 11 players going out there giving everything for this football club,”

“The fans deserve a good performance. The way I can affect the team is by selecting an 11 that go out there and give their all for this club.”

“I know that fans aren’t happy with the position we are in the league at the moment.”

“I would be the same if I paid my hard-earned money but what we have got to do now is give something back to them. The only way I can do that, and the players can do that, is to perform.”

“In the game against Accrington, I want the performance from the players to be a Martin O’Connor performance – a Walsall FC performance.”

Following our 3-1 defeat to Oxford United on Saturday many supporters turned their frustrations towards the players.

Chants of “your’e not fit to wear the shirt” could be heard from a large section of home fans and Saturdays defeat was just one defeat too many.

The players showed passion against Barnsley, Portsmouth and Sunderland and despite our three defeats not many questioned our performances but the abject performance on Saturday had taken its toll.

Most of these players have been at the club for two years now and have coincided with two horrendous years – they have five games to salvage something before they find another club.
