Walsall face Colchester United at the Banks’s Stadium later today. (KO 3pm) The Saddlers are looking to bounce back from a disappointing cup exit on Tuesday, whilst the U’s will be out to push forward with their season campaign.

In league one, the Saddlers have lost 2 and won 2, to Colchester’s 1 win and 3 draws.

Walsall are struggling with injuries, as Steve Jones and Richard Taundry struggle to be fit, with Jones very unlikely to figure in the team.

However, Darren Byfield will be back in action and he has said he is ready to fight for his place. Byfield has missed three games and new boys Macken and Reid have filled his boots, with Reid scoring 2 and Macken, 1.

He told the Express and Star: “It`s entirely up to the gaffer what he wants to do…there`s a lot of competition here now and that`s how it should be. It`s good.’

“If I`m not playing then that means other players must be doing well, which in turn means Walsall are on the up.’ He added

Also under scrutiny is the attendance as just 1793 people saw the Saddler’s crash out to Chesterfield in the JPT.

Manager Chris Hutchings told the Express and Star: ‘The fans` support is always important at any football club. There are no games this weekend in the Premier League with the international break so it would be nice if some came along.’

Colchester has had a boost this week with goalkeeper Ben Williams and Ben Coker returning, but Morten Knudsen and John-Joe O’Toole both ruled out.

The Saddlers will hopefully come out all guns blazing. If they do that, they can be very threatening on the attack. There are still holes that need to be filled, so I am not expecting too much just yet!

Prediction: 3-2 Saddlers!

Bring on the game!
